OwnCloud has been designed to work with numerous database management systems, which includes SQLite, MariaDB, MySQL, Oracle Database, and PostgreSQL.

You will still be able to run ownCloud on Linux or Windows servers with a little gigabyte of RAM.

With OwnCloud 9, administrators can now use storage backends in order to deeply integrate advanced storage and existing metadata capabilities. Hence, OwnCloud will be able to manage the metadata without porting it to its own native database.

OwnCloud now enables you to view as well as edit your files with LibreOffice. It also allows you to tag and structure files. This is really important when you are dealing with numerous large files. The activity feeds and notification across the devices is an excellent way to be updated.

Hence, if you desire a private IaaS cloud, which can control and work for you, whether you are working from your data center or your living room, then you should give OwnCloud a try.
